Constructive Community Feedback

Constructive Community Feedback

Wed Aug 19, 2009 8:45 am

Hello all, I decided to make a new thread instead of respond to this one viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1185

This thread will be the place for constructive MP feedback from the community. I must emphasize the word, "constructive." Posting in this thread in a mix OF CAPS and other angry epithets will be removed, as those types of rants tend to not supply examples or possible suggestions with regards to how players would like to see things changed within the game. There will be a concentrated effort on our end to address the concerns and solutions offered up by the community here.

I do not ignore the threads here on the forums, I do not run away and hide in some cave where everyone tells me that the job is done. I make sure that by the end of every day I have read every thread on the forums, and that the issues that are brought up (especially the ones that tend to repeat themselves time and time again) are noted and will be looked at for future updates and for further improvement of the game as a whole. As of right now, the feedback is all over the place, so I want to create this thread to consolidate and organize your comments.

So please, use this thread as a place to calmly, intelligently, and collectively post the things that you would like to see changed or added (*and please specify the platform you are talking about*) to the game and we will work on addressing your feedback.

First off, seems the MP devs aren't really familiar with the engine. The scripts in this game should be compiled and all decls should be made binary(currently some are, but all .def files are still in ASCII format). These 2 issues are seriously CRITICAL issues. I do understand if you want to help the modding scene by having these files until a SDK is release.

Now for smaller issues:
Open up ETQW 1.5 changelog and add some fixes from it. One thing i remember that is urgent is off-screen rendering for both screenshots and renderNetDemo.
Just look at the result of "screenshot 1600 1200 16" command when current screen resolution is lower than it. All edge pixels get repeated to fill the size instead of a bigger image: Example

Thank you for this forum area Peter.

For PC:

Would you want patch fixes, modding suggestions, SDK suggestions or just game play MP related issues in general?

As for me, my suggestion would be a "classic mode" setting. I am sure others will explain the specifics in better detail than I can.

A weapons bank may help mod development

For better pub play, expanding to maps with 12 vs 12 would be nice.

Nice thread, let's hope it won't turn like a kids fight.

Imo, this game has a lack of feature, the gameplay is correct.

We all miss free fly mod, give us a good reason to why you removed it ?
We wish to see a Wolf:tv for competition (is was working great on et:qw).
Also, since you can't change your online name (1name per account) it would be good to have a friendlist for PC too (i guess it was done for console, at least the Xbox, need this on PC too, REALLY !)

Also, the UI on pc feels like a console mod, it's really annoying to browse through it.
The server browser should show more server per page (just make the text smaller for each server name).
When typing a message (ingame), if you press ESC you go on menu where you should just exit the box where you are typing the message and be able to walk again instead of typing in the message box.

Need an option to turn off controller on PC (all tips and menu button shows me controller button (ex: press Y for use) but I'm not using my pad at all. I wish I could have common menu instead. (for example, instead of having "A: Exit" just leave the "exit", a click on it/pressing enter on keyboard should activate the button)

Also, like every Id's game, we need a place where to download server's file to install it (ex : ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/ not showing wolf2, why ?) instead of forcing us to upload it from our home PC to the server then install it, it is just a waste of time.
Need linux server's file too (and client too, but servers file are more important because most servers are running on linux whereas clients are mostly running on windows). Just use QW's file to save time (and money).

The only gameplay feature who have to be fixed imo, is that when you press the "_use" button (instead of _activate or _item) you throw a pack to the objectiv near of you instead of planting the bomb / picking obj. You have to stay idle for around 1sec to fix this. But if you use the "_activate" context button it is working fine, you don't have to idle.)
Ho yes, and please make objectiv pickable when walking over it instead of making them pickable (or do a community poll about it, you'll see the results).

Thx for listening to us :)

Perhaps I'm the only one who has this problem but I think the area around the usuable objects (dynamite spots/engineer build/mounted guns) either needs to be larger or tweaked. In the fast pace of this game sometimes running up to one of the objects I'll end up throwing down an ammo pack or health pack before my character will finally interact with the object. I also experience the same issue with reviving.

2 things i think that are important and would like to see changed or added are:
-a sprint bar on the HUD

- when u take an opponents ammo u pick up their full clip regardless of how many bullets they have shot from that weapon. should change it to that when you pick up the weapon you pick up the amount of bullets the person has shot.

I'm not technical about this in any means, but why aim down the site of the gun when you are just as accurate if not more accurate when shooting from hip. I have not noticed a difference in recoil or accuracy firing from the hip., its actually easier because the gun isnt in the way when you start firing and trying to see your target. The sounds aren't very good but the game speed is nice and it has great potential to be good multiplayer.

My suggestions, and maybe a few others will back me up on this are:

- quicksave/save games
- head bob on/off
- crosshairs
- new PC oriented UI

I'm reffering of course to the SP part of the PC game.
