On the Subject of Possible Release Dates and New Info

Re: On the Subject of Possible Release Dates and New Info

I'm kinda with JYDPNS, I think some questions could almost certainly be answered now, and the failure to answer them might stem from id knowing most of us won't like the answer. Maybe that's just me being paranoid but we had months of SD telling us during ET:QW's development that they were listening to us and then look what we got !

I hope Sokal's post isn't just PR spin, and they really are listening to the underlying opinions being expressed here.

You'll get even more in #crossfire on QuakeNet ;)

I have been a "gamer" .... for a very long,long time.
I was there when Raven just barely began; and, then with ID in Co-developing, and even prior to that. Raven has always put their very best into every single project they have ever gotten involved with. I know, that when Raven and ID(along with Activision..) actually decide that it is the "right time" to set a street date,
this game--will be totally and completely done(polished project)and ready... I have absolutely NO doubt that it will BLOW the socks off of any "gamer" willing to actually get into this new version of "Wolfenstein". "Quality" takes time...
I can wait....

I'm not sure how a statement of fact can be considered idiotic. ??

SD had a closed beta, an open beta and a demo for ET:QW. They involved the community to a degree previously unheard of (for which I heartily commend them by the way). However they then delivered a game so awe-inspiring it sank without trace (in gaming terms)!

They even had a closed beta specifically for competititve teams, and then failed to produce the promised comp mod, leaving it to the community to make one. By the time the community made pro mod arrived (just a few months later) there was hardly any community left.

Whichever way you look at it ET:QW was a failure. And not just a failure but one truly deserving the much mis-used "epic" tag to boot.

My concern when a developer says "we're listening" is, are they doing an SD style "we're listening" (which loosely translated means, "we're 95% done so if you don't like it, tough") or are they really listening. Because if they're really listening we'll get a shoot from the hip, no or worthless ironsights, fast paced, arcade style action game, because any **** can skim read these forums and conclude that's what "most" people want.

Lets be honest, many of us got burnt by SD, it is as simple as that, we came running to ETQW thinking ohhhh SD they made quake mods, they made W:ET, **** this game is gonna rock, we have a community manager on the forums giving us info and telling us SD are listening to us, they gave us beta after beta, **** even beta forums to give feedback.

But, they did not listen and in the end produced a game the designers wanted, not one the players wanted.

That is what burnt so many of us and it is this burning that is sitting in our minds, are we now reliving it here with ID again, or will this time be different?

I think we all have a sense of hope which is clouded with a sense of "oh oh da'javu here we go again", I guess in the end we can not allow the past to impact us so much, we simply have to wait and see what we end up with. I personally will avoid anything SD get involved in in the future, I have always loved ID games and whilst the burning of the past is still in the mind I will stand by ID until they prove me wrong.

Evil and Kendle. I agree 100% about ETQW. The ETQW game was NOT designed for the ET or RTCW players.

It was a mix of different games (Team fortess turrets, Battlefield spam with many andpowerful vehicles making infantry less good, Call of Duty iron sights where you get slower speed when using IS, Quake skins lol, quake "story", and ET classes.

The actuall shooting, movement and gameplay (like revives) WAS NOTHING LIKE ET OR RTCW.
The gamename is a total lie. id Software did change the logo however, making "Enemy Territory" much smaller texsize and Quake Wars much bigger. And thats atleast a little better, since "Quake Wars" is a game of it own, not a game in a series. Actually Quake in Quake Wars doesnt deserve the name either. It should be named Fail wars, or SD Wars.

1-2 of my about 100 RTCW & ET friends play ETQW.

Actually I thought it was, I never had a problem with movement, shooting guns (human side) and stuff like reviving, my biggest issues with ET:QW were deployables / vehicles / spam etc., all the things that got in the way of "shooting people with guns".

But I think ET:QW failed precisely because it was a mix of games, and instead of appealing to a wider audience it actually appealed to no-one because everyone didn't like the bits that came from the games they didn't play, for example ET players didn't like the vehicles and (by comparison) slow pace whilst BF2 players didn't like the "quake-ness" of the game and (by comparison) fast pace etc.

That's the big lesson I hope id learn (getting off topic here), namely target the game at a specific audience, and hope you pick up sales from other areas as well. If you target a game at 2 (or more) different player bases you'll appeal to neither and sell fewer copies (IMHO).
