Well it´s true that the (well put) "profit-driven console landscape" has changed the direction of gaming with the introduction of HDMi and the ever-changing target generations, now more concerned with gore and gadgets than having a fluid game.
However, both these likes are satiable. The game we fans ask for is generally a basic one, that doesn´t call for much tampering with the game and asks to give us the game as it was, in general, and let the user adjust the game to him, with patches, server settings, mods and whatnot. Even a MOD with the type of game we ask for, free of the perhaps new additions to the game would be a nice addition and would allow for both gore-fiends and oldschool fans to be satisfied.
Wouldn´t that be a sight? A game coming out with two different MP mods that adjusts to the user, and what his preference is? One radically adjusted one, and the good old basic RTCW. It´s hard to go wrong when instead of choosing whether to play it safe or go all out, you did both. Of course this is a farfetched and probably improbable suggestion.
Recently the BF franchise announced the release of a "Battlefield: 1943" downloadable game, with the recent BF Bad Company engine, adjusted to, what was to many fans the best BF, the well-known Battlefield 1942, featuring their most famous maps: Wake Island, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima. DICE went back to it´s origins and is allowing fans to relive it with today´s graphics engine, aditions, but holding true to their original masterpiece. I assure you this downloadable game will be a huge success, perhaps more so than if they´d have created a BF 3000 with spaceships and laser beams.
Ideas like that come from the fans! Perhaps too many companies overlook fan opinions and believe they have the answer to everything, but i like the fact i stumbled across this forum where it seems to be that we have a chance to speak up and comment. I do believe we would be of more use if we knew what are the current indecisions, although i would have to guess that alot of them are in the MP version.
Without information there isn´t much more we can do than just express how deeply we´d want the new RTCW to be just as fluid, quick, immaculate and, because of this, immortal as it´s predecessor.
Ps: I´m not quite sure... but UDP does in fact ring a bell. If it was OLTL i probably did hit it every now and then, although my usual spots were Oldcrow´s, Teh Ganja Palace, and nearing the end ECG Network 24/7 beach. My pseudonyms were Biggles and HawaiianPunch, if that helps. What was your nick?
